Autumn, fall, whatever you call it – summer is coming to a close. With it the start of school and the whisper of cooler nights. Fall is also apple season! Mackintosh, Granny Smith, Cortland, Honey-crisp, whatever your favorite, there is a delicious recipe to go with it. There is no better way to blend the sweet taste of summer with the smoky bonfires of fall.
Sausage and Apples
1 large Cortland or Mackintosh apple, cored, peeled, and sliced into 8 equal pieces
1 large Granny Smith apple, cored, peeled and sliced into 8 pieces
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/8 cup brown sugar
A pinch of salt
2 TBSP butter
1 pckg. Cocktail sausages, rinsed.
Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Add spices, sugar and apple slices. Cook over medium heat and
Stir until bubbly and apples are coated in syrup. Turn heat to low and add sausages. Cover and
simmer until sausages are heated through, stirring occasionally.
